When my husband quit his job to be a stay at home dad, he revolutionized our kitchen. Not only did he cut our food budget in half, but he has also improved the quality of the food we’re eating.
He took average meals I was making and tweaked them until we were all begging for seconds. Literally.
His secret ingredient spaghetti sauce has been one of the biggest wins in the kitchen and it’s so stinkin’ easy that if he ever goes back to work I can still pull it off!
Secret Ingredient Spaghetti Sauce
- 1 bottle of your favorite spaghetti sauce
- 2 avocados (cut into quarters)
- Spaghetti noodles
Looking at that list, I’m sure you’ve already figured out my husband’s secret ingredient. It’s avocado. In spaghetti sauce.
Don’t worry, I gave him a weird look when he served it the first time too. “What do you mean you put avocado in the spaghetti?”
In fact, I’m not quite sure I believed him that he really put it in there, I thought he was just teasing me at first. It wasn’t a joke though and this spaghetti sauce was AMAZING!!!
It’s super easy to make too. We buy a jar of spaghetti sauce at the store instead of making our own. To enhance it, simply pour half the jar into a blender, with the avocado quarters and blend. This will make a thick, creamy sauce that you can pour into a saucepan with the other half of the jar of sauce to mix and heat thoroughly.
Other than that, prepare your spaghetti as you normally would. We usually add ground meat and chopped onion to ours, but it’s all personal preference from here on out.
You can even make garlic bread the easy way (with regular bread) to go with it!
